Silicone VS Rubber Molding?

Silicone molding is a manufacturing process using synthetic silicone rubber, known for its wide temperature range (-40°C to 200°C+), non-toxic properties, and excellent UV/aging resistance. It’s ideal for food-grade, medical, and high-temperature applications.
Rubber molding forms parts from natural or conventional synthetic rubbers (like NBR, EPDM). It’s a cost-effective solution for standard industrial seals and parts, though it has lower heat resistance and is more prone to aging than silicone.

Main Silicone & Rubber Molding Classification

Liquid Silicone (LSR) Injection Molding

Short for LSR molding, it has strong fluidity and fast molding speed with high product precision and no peculiar smell. It is suitable for medical supplies, baby products, and precision waterproof parts, and can realize ultra-thin wall complex structure molding.

Solid Silicone & Rubber Compression Molding

For HCR silicone and conventional rubber compounds, it offers high cost performance, a wide hardness selection range, strong toughness, and wear resistance. It is mostly used for industrial seals, home appliance accessories, and outdoor wear-resistant parts.

Rubber & Silicone Injection Molding

Automatic injection production with high mass production efficiency. Finished products have smooth, burr-free appearances and stable, unified dimensions, suitable for standardized mass production of both rubber and silicone accessories.

Custom Silicone & Rubber Molding

We support custom special-shaped structures, special colors, and special hardness silicone and rubber products according to drawings and samples. We adjust production technology on demand to meet the needs of non-standard products.

Common Silicone & Rubber Molding Defects & Solutions

Product Air Bubbles

  • Cause: Trapped air in the mold, excessive moisture in raw materials, or improper curing/vulcanization temperature.
  • Solution: Optimize mold exhaust, adjust curing/vulcanization temperature, and control raw material humidity.
Product Shrinkage Depression
  • Cause: Insufficient injection/compression pressure, uneven mold temperature, or inadequate material feed during molding.
  • Solution: Increase injection/compression pressure and evenly control mold temperature.
Too Hard or Too Soft Parts
  • Cause: Incorrect raw material hardness grade, inaccurate mixing ratios, or improper curing/vulcanization time/temperature.
  • Solution: Accurately adjust raw material ratio, hardness grade, and curing/vulcanization time.
Demoulding Scratch
  • Cause: Insufficient demoulding draft angle, high mold surface friction, or material sticking to the mold cavity.
  • Solution: Optimize demoulding draft angle and use special demoulding additives or mold coatings.

Is Liquid Silicone Better Than Solid Silicone? How Do They Compare to Rubber?

Liquid silicone (LSR) offers high precision and fast cycle times for complex, medical/food-grade parts. Solid silicone (HCR) is more cost-effective for large/industrial components. Rubber provides excellent wear resistance and cost performance for general industrial use. The best choice depends on your application requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Liquid silicone has higher cleanliness, suitable for high-end medical and baby products; solid silicone has higher cost performance, suitable for general industrial daily necessities, choose according to demand.

Yes. Both materials can be engineered to provide excellent sealing, waterproofing, and electrical insulation, making them ideal for electronic, automotive, and outdoor applications.

Absolutely. We offer custom colors, finishes, and hardness grades for both silicone and rubber to match your brand specifications and functional needs.

High-quality silicone and specialty rubbers (like EPDM, FKM) are formulated for excellent UV, ozone, and heat resistance. They resist aging, cracking, and discoloration far better than many other materials when properly specified.
