TOPWELL Custom Insert Molding

Integrated Metal & Plastic Insert Injection Molding

Enhance structural strength, improve connection stability and simplify assembly work

Overview:Specialized in precision insert molding manufacturing, we encapsulate varied metal and functional inserts within engineered plastics. This optimized manufacturing technique simplifies product assembly, while upgrading parts’ mechanical performance and functional attributes. We support customized development and volume manufacturing for high-precision industrial, electrical and automotive structural components.

What is Insert Molding?

Insert molding is an advanced injection molding technology. Pre-place hard inserts such as metal nuts, copper pins, screws and conductive parts into mold cavity in advance, then inject molten plastic to wrap and fix all inserts integrally. It endows plastic parts with fastening, conductive, load-bearing and positioning functions, greatly improving structural stability and assembly precision.

Insert Molding Service Types & Capabilities

Metal Insert Encapsulation: Embed threaded studs, brass pins, stainless fasteners and conductive components into plastic in one molding cycle.

Multi-Material Overmolding: Combine rigid engineering plastics with metal or hard plastic inserts to achieve integrated composite structures.

Structural Reinforcement: Strengthen weak plastic stress points to prevent thread slipping and improve overall load-bearing capacity.

Functional Customization: Manufacture electrically conductive, heat-dissipating and positioning structural parts for specialized scenarios.

Precision Mold Development: Custom fixture-based molds designed to solve insert offsetting and floating issues for high-precision parts.

Full-cycle Manufacturing: Support design optimization, sample validation, small-batch trials and stable mass production for industrial-grade components.

Insert Molding VS Overmolding

Insert Molding

Embed metal or functional inserts inside, wrap plastic outside

Core function: Strengthen structure, thread assembly, load bearing and electric conduction

Application: Force-bearing parts, screw assembly and electrically connected products

Overmolding

No internal metal parts, secondary wrapping with different soft and hard plastic

Core function: Anti-slip grip, waterproof sealing, shock absorption and appearance upgrading

Application: Handles, housings, daily anti-slip goods and appearance functional products

Insert Molding Materials

  • Common Resins: ABS, PC, PC/ABS, PA (Nylon), PBT, TPE/TPU, PPS
  • Insert Materials: Brass, copper, stainless steel, aluminum, steel pins, threaded inserts, magnets, and pre-formed plastic components
  • Key Notes: Material selection is based on mechanical strength, heat resistance, chemical compatibility, and bonding performance with the insert.

Surface Treatment Options

  • Painting & Coating: Matte/gloss spray painting, UV coating, soft-touch paint, and scratch-resistant finishes for color customization and enhanced durability.
  • Plating: Vacuum metallization, chrome plating, and nickel plating for a premium metallic look (requires compatible resins like ABS).
  • Printing: Silk-screen printing, pad printing, and heat transfer printing for logos, text, and patterns on flat or simple curved surfaces.
  • Laser Marking & Engraving: Permanent part numbers, logos, and warning labels, with the option to reveal contrasting undercoat colors.
  • Texturing & Finishing: Sandblasting for matte anti-fingerprint texture, polishing for high-gloss surfaces, and deburring for smooth edges.
  • Other Treatments: Electrophoretic coating for metal inserts, anti-corrosion treatment, and over-molding with a second resin layer for grip or protection.

Production Capacity

  • Low volume order: Support 100–500 pieces trial orders, quickly build insert molds with customized fixtures, complete sample delivery in 3–7 working days, ideal for prototype testing and product validation.
  • Medium volume order: 500–10,000 pieces, standard insert molds with stable production capacity and reliable insert positioning, ensuring consistent quality at a competitive cost.
  • Mass order: More than 10,000 pieces, design multi-cavity insert molds with automated feeding systems, reduce unit cost significantly for large-scale manufacturing.

Insert Molding Lead Time & MOQ

  • Sample lead time: 3–6 working days
  • Mold development cycle: 8–18 working days (including fixture design for insert alignment)
  • Mass production delivery cycle: 5–8 working days for small batches, 10–20 working days for large batches
  • MOQ: No strict minimum order quantity, support prototype sampling and small trial orders to meet diverse customer needs.
